In the past, you often had to decide between cameras for different uses - either a small and light one with limited zoom or a much bulkier device in the superzoom variety. Now you can get the best of both world's in something that's both super slim and super zoomy thank to Sony.
The company has just announced thedetails of two new cameras - the DSC-HX90 and WX500 which are all about giving you a huge zoom range in a really small body. They're the most compact cameras in their class with the HX90 measuring 102 x 58 x 35.5 and 245g while the WX500 is a mere 236g and 101.6 x 58.1 x 35.5mm.
That's really slim and light, yet both cameras manage to pack in a class-leading 18.2 megapixel image sensor and a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar lens with a massive optical zoom range of 30x - so you'll never miss the action even if its far away. With extra digital zooming you can reach a staggering 60x and the built in image stabilisation will give your shaky hands a boost at the high end of the zoom, something which is also very useful for taking movies.
The image quality is very impressive across both cameras, with the HX90 offering up an extra little treat for avid photographers in its own unique pop up OLED viewfinder. It's ideal for when you're shooting in very bright conditions or want to be really careful about composition and it can be stowed away with ease to restore the clean lines of the camera. And there's more to like in the HX90, with a manual control ring around the lens to give you precise control over various functions on the fly.And both devices sport a 3 inch LCD on the rear which can be used to edit photos after you take them and also flips out to help you take the perfect selfie.
