Sony rolling out updates for older Xperia handsets

Sony is rolling out the Android 5.0.2 update to its Xperia Z and Xperia ZR handsets, along with a firmware update for the Xperia Z1 and others.

The Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for Xperia Z and Xperia ZR handsets is available over the air. It clocks in at 694.8MB and includes Google's Material Design UI, an updated interactive lock screen notifications with customisable settings, support for multi-user profiles and guest mode, and the option to move apps onto SD cards.

Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZR owners need to keep at least 1.2GB storage free to install the update. Naturally, it’s advised to back up your device before updating it.

Meanwhile, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra owners have received a firmware update. This includes several bug fixes along with some new features. It should now be easier to move content from phone storage to external storage, while the messaging function in Ultra Stamina Mode should be improved.

This update also adds a "close-all-button" to close all apps from the activity menu.

The update should be available both over the air and via the Sony PC companion.
