Sony showed off Xperia Z4 in private at CES

Sony showed off Xperia Z4 in private at CES

Sony is holding back its major smartphone announcements, but apparently let a select few see the Xperia Z4 in person.

The public may not be able to get a glimpse at the Z4 at CES, but a chosen few were reportedly shown the device. Self proclaimed “Teknological Secret Agent,” Twitter user, @Ricciolo1 said that something was shown off in a secret room.

It’s not all that unsurprising that Sony would show the handset to select partners and VIPs ahead of its official announcement. Samsung also reportedly took this approach with the Galaxy S6.

Mobile World Congress is, in reality, the showcase that these smartphone manufacturers are targeting for major announcements. Both Sony and Samsung used the event last year to unveil their new flagship phones. Mobile World Congress also tends to be a more mobile centric event. By comparison, CES this year seems to be focused on car technology, the connected home, and wearables.

We shouldn’t have long to wait for Sony to officially announce the Xperia Z4. Mobile World Congress takes place from 2-5 March.
