Sony Mobile is out in force at IFA 2016 with large range of finished and still gestating products, including new additions to their smartphone range.
The Xperia X range was introduced at CES at the start of 2016 and that family is about to get bigger with two new handsets - the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Compact.
The XZ is Sony's new flagship and the name is important. It follows on the recently released XA to show that Sony is covering everything from A to Z in this range, and also has the advantage of including the Z moniker to bridge the gap from their previous generation of flagships.
It features a 5.2 inch screen at full HD 1080p and some welcome features including water resistance, microSD expansion and a headphone jack! New additions start with the smooth 'loop' surface that's decked out in metal and really pleasant to hold. It's a good deal more rounded than their recent models, and all the better for it.
The XZ is also Sony's first phone to feature USB type C which can enable faster charger and also means you'll never put the cable in upside down again!
A top of the line camera is also on board, with a 23 megapixel sensor on the back and a 13 MP model on the front. Triple imaging sensing tech makes sure you get blur free photos even in low light and our brief hands on suggests its a very impressive camera performer. You'll also find the first ever 5 axis image stabilisation on board, which will keep your videos jitter free.
Camera fans will also be glad to hear that you can change the shutter speed in the full manual mode, which remains very rare for smartphone cameras.
The X Compact is a 4.6 inch model that's feels like the perfect size for one handed use. It has the same loop rounded edges and a slightly bulkier frame, which might make it even nicer to hold.
It has the same camera specs as its bigger brother including a superior selfie experience that it designed to make it easy to get a blur free shot, with ISO reaching up to an impressive 6400.
Both phones are designed to last for longer thanks to advanced battery saving technology including a new partnership with Qnovo that's intended to help your battery have a longer life cycle by taking note of how its charging and working on efficiency.
Both of these handsets are set to arrive in the Irish market on the 1st of October, 2016. The X Compact will be available from free and we'll confirm pricing for the XZ as soon as we have it. If you pre-order the Xperia XZ from Eir or Meteor in Ireland during September 2016 you'll get a pair of Sony bass headphones worth €200 for free.
Stay tuned for more from IFA 2016 and Sony Mobile.
