The Sony Xperia Z3 has one of the longest battery life spans of smartphones in its class, according to new tests.
Sony’s latest flagship lasted for nearly nine and a half hours of screen-on time when put through PhoneArena’s tests. The test consists of running a custom web-script, which is designed to replicate the power consumption of typical day-to-day use. The Xperia Z3 comes in ahead of any other smartphone with Huawei’s Ascend Mate 7 the nearest competitor. Its phone lasted for just over nine hours in this test.
To put this in perspective, the Samsung Galaxy S5 managed to last seven and a half hours, while the Apple iPhone 6 Plus lasted approximately six and a half hours. The iPhone 6, with its smaller battery, lasted for just under five and a half hours.
What is surprising is that Sony manages to eek so much life out of a smaller battery, compared to the Xperia Z2, the Mate 7, and other high-end smartphones. The tested charging time was somewhat longer than competing devices. It takes approximately four hours with the stock 850 mA charger.
