Sports Illustrated publishes first photos snapped on iPhone 7 Plus

Apple made big promises about what the iPhone 7 Plus’ dual-camera system means for mobile photography. Sports Illustrated put the new handset and its cameras to the test over the weekend during the NFL game between the Titans and the Vikings.

The gallery gives us some idea of how the iPhone 7 Plus fares in real-life conditions, but it’s difficult to take too much away from it. It’s unclear which shots took advantage of the enhanced optical zoom capabilities of the iPhone 7 Plus, for example.

Unfortunately, Sports Illustrated didn’t show off the storied bokeh in action. This is a technique in which the foreground is in focus, while the background is blurred. It’s easily done with a DSLR, but is far trickier on a smartphone. As a result, Apple is limiting this feature to the portrait shooting mode on the iPhone 7 Plus.
