Steam may offer films and TV shows
Valve may be on course to offer films, TV shows and more through Steam thanks to the discovery of IDs for a variety of app types in Steam binaries following a recent Steam Beta update.

The new app types, which include Film, TV Series, Video, Plugin and Music, were spotted by SteamDB and indicate that Valve may be toying with the idea of implementing more multimedia services into its popular service. With the Steambox on the not-too-distant horizon, these new IDs indicate another string to Valve’s bow when it comes to its pitch for the living room.

Valve has been expanding its repertoire with services like Steam Music Beta, which lets users listen to their local collection of music while playing games; films such as Indie Game the Movie and Free to Play; and non-game applications including the accounting solution You Need A Budget.

There is the possibility that these app-type additions are simply improvements for what Valve currently offers, but we hope that it is actuallyexpanding its focus.
