Scotland Yard has confirmed that a 19-year old hacker in Essex, UK has been arrested in connection with a series of hacks and denial-of-service attacks against several companies. The suspect is believed to be a member of the LulzSec hacking group, which has claimed responsibility for attacks on Sony, Eve Online, Minecraft, the CIA and Bethesda.
Officers from the Police Central e-Crime Unit (PCeU) arrested the man last night on suspicion of breaching the Computer Misuse Act, and searched a house in Wickford, Essex, where they seized computer equipment, which will undergo forensic examination. The FBI and local Essex police worked in co-operation with the PCeU to investigate the case.
The LulzSec Twitter feed has grown in popularity and activity in the last few weeks. Followers were even encouraged to call a dedicated phone line with a company that they would like LulzSec to take down. There has been no activity or comment on the Twitter feed in relation to this announcement.
