At some time in summer 2015, Swatch will launch a wristwatch with as yet undisclosed ‘smart’ features to compete with the current slew of smartwatches. And despite the fact the ‘smartwatch’ market has a potential worth of $93 billion, Swatch are insisting that they do not need a business partner for their own offering.
As the world’s largest watchmaker, Swatch views the emergence of smartwatches as an opportunity as opposed to a direct threat to their sales. As such, the Swatch Touch is set to debut next summer. We’ll see just how secure Swatch feels when Apple (expectantly) tackle the smartwatch market at their incoming September 9th media event.
Swatch’s main executive Nick Hayek explains,
"All the big technology firms want to work with us and I don't rule out that we are or could be collaborating in some areas. But we can also do many things on our own."
