Apple looks set to do away with the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, a plan that many people take issue with.
More than 228,000 people have signed an online petition asking Apple to retain the standard 3.5mm headphone jack in the iPhone 7. The petition attacks Apple’s plan from two angles, one monetary and one environmental.
“Not only will this force iPhone users to dole out additional cash to replace their hi-fi headphones, it will singlehandedly create mountains of electronic waste — that likely won’t get recycled,” the petition reads.
“Tell Apple to respect its customers and our planet. Keep the standard headphone jack.”
Apple hasn’t officially said if it is putting an end to the traditional headphone jack. There have been multiple rumours in recent weeks citing sources familiar with plans, but nothing is known officially about the iPhone 7 just yet.
Perhaps this petition will be heeded. Then again, we may never know if it’s worked or not; Apple could release two versions of the iPhone 7 and we’ll be none the wiser.
