Given the relative indifference the general public had towards Toshiba's Thrive series of slates, it's not particularly surprising that the company has decided to go back to the drawing board in order to bring users a much more versatile, robust and, dare we say, modern solution to their portable computing needs.
The company has just announced that it is set to bring three new tablets to the consumer market this summer, namely the Excite 7.7, the Excite 10 and the Excite 13. Yes, you're reading that last one correctly - a whopping great 13" tablet is on the way.
So far the information that we have learned about the tablets can be summed up as follows:
Excite 7.7
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS
- 7.7" 1280 x 800 AMOLED Display
- Nvidia Tegra 3 CPU
- $500 for 16GB, $580 for 32GB
- Release date June 10th
Excite 10
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS
- 10" 1600 x 900 display
- SD Slot
- $500 for 16GB, $520 for 32GB, $650 for 64GB
- Release date May 6th
Excite 13
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS
- 13" 1600 x 900 display
- SD Slot
- $650 for 32GB, $750 for 64GB
- Release date June 10th
We're not entirely sure of the logic of having the 7.7" tablet costing MORE than the 10" tablet for the 32GB variety so unless there has been a typo somewhere on Toshiba's part we can't see that being particularly popular. As for the 13" model, we're not fully sure there's a market for that size of tablet yet, but we can certainly see the potential that such vast screen real estate holds.
