Tour De France Cyclists Could Do With Fewer Dangerous Selfies

There’s a new trend consisting of idiot cycling enthusiasts stepping onto the road, putting their backs to several hundred cyclists and taking a selfie. This acts as photographic proof, not only of the veracity of their foursquare accounts, but indeed of their really, really low IQs…

But while I’m content to sit back and judge, Tour De France riders like Geraint Thomas of Team Sky protest, stating,

"It's the new pain in the arse… I think people need to realise we take up the whole road. If you want to go and do that, go and sit in a tree. There's not much racing on British roads and people don't understand how fast we're going and how close we get."

Elsewhere, Tejay Van Garderen, of BMC racing fame, tweeted the following,

"Standing in the middle of the road with your back turned while 200 cyclists come at you, just to take a selfie. #think."

In any case, I’ll keep an eye on this trend. Because, not unlike a car crash, or an inevitable bike crash, I can’t not watch…
