Twitter is Going to Track the Other Apps You Have Installed on Your Phone

Very soon, the Twitter mobile app will be getting some news powers - it will snoop on your other installed apps.

According to a blog post by the company, they're going to be "collecting and occasionally updating the list of apps installed on your mobile device so we can deliver tailored content that you might be interested in." That makes perfect sense, giving the service the chance to serve promoted tweets and users who might be linked to how you use your mobile.

The company is keen to point out that they're just taking a look at the list of apps that's installed, not prying into any personal data within the applications themselves. They'll then feed that information into elements like more personalised suggestions for who to follow and getting better promoted content.

It seems like a positive move for both Twitter and Tweeters, and the process won't start until you see a popup message saying: "to help tailor your experience, Twitter uses the apps on your device." And you can always opt out of any data being collected by apps like Twitter, using the following steps:

Using Twitter for Android:
Tap theoverflow icon
TapSettings.
Tap the account you’d like to adjust.
UnderOther, you can adjust the setting toTailor Twitter based on my apps.

Using Twitter for iOS:
From theMetab, tap thegear icon
TapSettings.
Tap the account you’d like to adjust.
UnderPrivacy, you can adjust the setting toTailor Twitter based on my apps.
