Twitter has been making some changes over the last year or so, subtly moving itself into a space that's more about providing breaking news and a little away from the competitive social media market.
It's still an important communications tool though, with additions like removing the character limit on direct messages. Now DMs are getting some functionality which is long overdue- read receipts.
This will already be familar to those of you using everything from Facebook Messenger to WhatsApp, a notification for when your message has been seen by the other party. And it's finally here on Twitter DM.

As you can see from the video you'll also now get an update when other parties are typing, which brings this service in line with other familar apps. Twitter clearly wants to position it as another major messaging platform, so it's likely you'll see more updates soon.
