Twitter Said to be Considering Soundcloud Purchase
Second time lucky?

Twitter's first attempt at pushing into the online music market may not have gone as well as it hoped, with the company closing down its music app after it failed to attract the kind of user attention that it had hoped, but it looks as though it's preparing itself for another attempt, with online streaming service Soundcloud said to be on the radar.

According to a report on the website Recode, Twitter is working behind the scenes on acquiring the company, but any deal could still be a ways off given the amount of money that would likely be needed to push any deal through since Soundcloud is now valued at more than $700 million.

With more than 250 million registered users, Soundcloud is hugely popular among musicians and producers and hosts millions of tracks and live sets, with registered users able to add comments, follow other users and share music on social networks, making it one of the most popular sites of its ilk around right now.

Unlike other streaming services where users pay a subscription fee, Soundcloud operates a free to listen policy, only charging artists who wish to opt for premium upload and tracking services.
