Uber may not quite have the profile of the Hailo service (especially in Ireland) but as a company they're constantly innovating to bring new features to their car-hire product.
The latest is all about making the service more accessible to the hearing impaired, and in this case specifically for drivers with hearing problems.
The company has worked closely with the National Association of the Deaf in the United States to update their app for these users. When a fare is coming in, the app will now blink and flash in a very obvious way. The customer will then be notified that they are getting a deaf driver, giving them a chance to input the destination ahead of time so they can be ready to go.
Here's Larry with more.
It's a great idea and a simple way of being more inclusive to all kinds of drivers, not just those who are deaf. This new feature set is currently being tested in major cities in the US and Uber is hoping to bring it worldwide soon.
