Vimeo adds support for 360-degree videos

Video-sharing website Vimeo has added support for 360-degree videos on Vimeo’s website and mobile app, with support for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive coming soon.

Vimeo revealed the news in a Twitter post on the company’s channel, and notable features of the update include 8K playback support, monoscopic and stereoscopic video, offline HD playback plus a UI compass viewers can use in-video to stay orientated.

In a press statement about the new support, Vimeo director of video product Sara Poorsattar said:

“Vimeo has always been committed to preserving and delivering the highest quality video and our move into 360 expands our premium video technology solution to 360 filmmakers.”
