Visa-powered ring is no longer exclusive to Olympians

Athletes who made it to Rio were presented with a Visa-powered ring that can be used to make payments. But the NFC Ring will soon be available to anyone who wants to pay with their jewellery.

The NFC Ring is expected to ship in December and retails for $53 (about €45). It will be available in either black or white.

The NFC Ring will allow you to pay without needing your smartphone around. It creates anonymising tokens during the payment process, so that’s one less thing you need to worry about having on you when you leave the house.

However, it can only be used in establishments that actually support the NFC Ring. Other places may look at you funny when you present your ring to pay.
