WhatsApp is making some changes, and they're pretty familiar.
The latest update brings in extra photo and video editing tools, including the ability to doodle right on the image. It's bright and colourful and user friendly, and it might look a little bit like something you've already done on Snapchat.
Facebook owned products like WhatsApp and Instagram have been taking plenty of lessons from Snapchat over the last few months, leaning into the youth market which is interested in this sort of thing.
The WhatsApp update also allows for the use of front-facing flash which is increasingly popular as well as zooming during video recording and double tapping to switch between the front and back cameras. These are all elements which Snapchat already included, and while it's not a crime to take cues from your rivals the similarity is interesting, especially as Facebook's products are well behind the curve for some of these features.
The new version of WhatsApp is available now on Android, coming to iOS soon.
