WhatsApp testing business chat function

Popular messaging app WhatsApp is reportedly testing new tools that will allow businesses to contact WhatsApp users about services and products they may be interested in, according to an article from Reuters.

The article suggests that a number of companies from the Y Combinator startup incubator program are currently conducting the tests as WhatsApp wishes to identify methods for generating revenue.

WhatsApp was purchased by Facebook for $19 billion three years ago but has yet to put in place a profitable business model.

The company is aware of the problems that can rise from spamming users with business offers and is conducting a user survey about the new tools.
