It’s widely considered that popular messaging app WhatsApp will shortly offer free voice chats. The reasons for this are a little contrived so bear with us…
1. Earlier this year, at Mobile World Congress, Jan Koum, WhatsApp’s CEO, announced plans to add voice services to its feature list during Q2 2014.
2. WPCentral report that volunteer translators working on WhatsApp’s Hindi version had to translate the terms ‘Hang Up’, ‘Incoming call’ and ‘Outgoing call’
3. And finally, via thefusejoplin.com, “The leaked images of the upcoming user interface shows that the app has been enabled with other language translations which will be displayed at the time a person receives a call via WhatsApp,”
Needless to say, the inclusion of a free voice chat option could spell disaster for existing free-calling apps such as Viber and Line. But what harm in a little healthy competition?
