WhatsApp announced that its users can now send and receive messages using a website on computers.
Users can connect their mobile apps to the web client and continue conversations with friends using the dedicated web client. The web client is an extension of the messaging service on your phone and mirrors conversations from your mobile. This also means that all of your messages still live on your phone.
But there is a catch; your phone must be connected to the internet for the web service to function. The main benefits we see to this is having a full keyboard at your disposal and possibly the ability to attach images stored on your desktop.
For the moment, iOS users will not be able to take advantage of the web client. WhatsApp says this is due to “Apple platform limitations.”
WhatsApp recently began cracking down on the use of unofficial WhatsApp clients. We doubt this is a coincidence.
