Windows Phone 8.1 Coming on June 24th
Expected release date finally confirmed...

Microsoft has been talking a big game about the forthcoming Windows Phone 8.1, but there had been a certain amount of uncertainty as to when general consumers could expect to get their hands on the major overhaul before today. Thankfully, the company, which recently acquired Nokia's mobile division, as announced that owners of compatible hansets can expect to get their hands on the operating system from June 24th.

Registered Microsoft developers have had access to the new version of the mobile OS for quite a while now, and there are plenty of guides available for how consumers can update their own handsets without any major headaches, but not everyone wants to have to jump through hoops (no matter how few) or invalidate their warranty to access something that may not even represent the final consumer build, so getting a concrete release date out there has been a priotity for Microsoft.

In the updated Windows Phone 8.1, users can look forward to Microsoft's much vaunted Cortana voice control - a direct competitor to Apple's Siri - but availability will depend on where you live, or where you set your handset's location settings to.
