Admittedly Modders have been fiddling with Microsoft’s wonder peripheral for some time now, but the official PC version is slated for an early 2012 release according to Microsoft News.

What’s more, this desktop iteration will happily focus on objects a mere 50cms from the lens, a significant improvement on the current tech’s limiting capacity. Graceful degradation is down to 40cms while the USB cable has also, conveniently been shortened.

One of the most requested features from developers, Near Mode will be included in the package, ideal for close up interactions. Additionally, commercial applications have also been given the green light from Microsoft. So don’t be surprised to find yourself browsing the Kinect Store in the near future.

Seems the only problem is where to put the sodding thing on an already cluttered desk!

Solve that problem Microsoft, and I’ll be impressed....
