YouTube has launched a brand new function that allows viewers to pay to pin a comment to the top of the chat section of a live video stream for up to five hours.
Named ‘Super Chat’, the new function is designed to help improve connections between content creators and fans, whilst also providing content creators with a new method for making money.
The function will replace the Fan Funding monetary option that was introduced in 2014 and allowed viewers to make voluntary payments directly to content creators. The Fan Funding feature will be discontinued on February 28.
Super Chat is currently available in beta, and will be launched for content creators in 20 countries and viewers in over 40 countries on 31 January.
