Google is apparently working on a new mobile YouTube feature that will let users live-stream to their subscriber base.

YouTube Connect will be available on iOS and Android, according to VentureBeat’s sources, and will act as a direct competitor to Periscope and Facebook Live. Apparently, functionality won’t be that different to these services, but those with a large YouTube following may be more tempted by it.

It’s reported that it will be possible to store previous broadcasts, so subscribers will be able to catch up if they miss the live broadcast. At the moment, according to the source, there is currently no way to share links to Facebook or Twitter. That may change before launch.

We may hear more about YouTube Connect at Google I/O in May.
