ZTE unveils world's first 5G-enabled smartphone

Chinese telecommunications company ZTE unveiled the world’s first 5G-enabled smartphone on Sunday at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain as noted in an article from The Economic Times.

ZTE’s Gigabit Phone can reach download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, which is close to 10 times faster than that of the 4G services commonly used today.

The Gigabit Phone also features 360-degree panoramic Virtual Reality video recording plus speedy downloads of ultra Hi-Fi music and video content.

However, ZTE revealed consumers will have to wait a while before they can get their hands on the Gigabit Phone; South Korea’s KT Corp will trial 5G services during the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang with large-scale commercial deployment to follow two years later in 2020.
