Constantine Looks Naff. But Also Good. But Also Naff.
An’ ‘e is British this time, innit?!

Hellblazer finished with its 300th issue in February of 2013. It had been running for 25 years.

Not that this was necessarily the impetus for NBC’s television series about its charismatic leading man. But it’s as good a time as any to give DC’s favourite exorcist a decent run at the small screen (especially considering DC’s favourite archer is making such a decent stab of it…)

‘Names’ behind this version include David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel) attached as an executive producer, and Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) as a director. The cast include Lucy Griffiths, Harold Perrineau, Charles Halford, and Matt Ryan as the titular disgruntled limey. And if you recognized any of those names, you win the prize.

The prize being my respect and/or scorn.

Truth be told, from what I can gleam of the teaser trailer and clip below, Constantine is naff, clichéd and kind of cheap looking. People seem to say what you expect them to say, the baddies seem to be empirically bad and the hocus pocus looks a little hokey… pokey?

But, I do detect a sense fun and irreverence, particularly about the leading man, so I’m willing to give it a punt. Are you? Best watch the footage below before answering…
