The actress Edna Dore, known to many as Mo Butcher from EastEnders, has passed away in her sleep aged 92. She played the East London character in the cult soap series from 1988 to 1990 and made a lasting impression on the fans despite the relatively short time span.
Dore began her career during World War II in the Entertainments National Service Association and then moved into theatre, working on productions in repertory theatre, the West End and Britain's National Theatre. Her TV credits asides from EastEnders include Casualty, Eyes Down and Open All Hours. Her film credits include High Hopes, Nil by Mouth and The Bill.
Her Eyes Down co-star Paul O’Grady paid respect to the actress in his statement following her death, saying “I've never had so many laughs; she was just a bundle of fun. We got sent home from rehearsals one day for laughing. I won't tell you why but Edna said: 'In my 70 years in the business, I've never been sent out of rehearsals’.
She had a remarkable career. She might be gone but she's not forgotten by me. I had a ball with Edna, what a laugh she was.” Edna Dore’s agent Belinda Wright added "I'd known her for more than 30 years and she was a wonderful actress and great fun”.
