Game of Thrones’ fifth season is due early next year.
There will only be five directors.
Each will direct two consecutive episodes.
No word yet on whether these episodes with be two-parters, or will concern a specific cast group only (i.e. S05E01 & S05E02 dedicated to Dany and the Dragons). But unfortunately, I kind of doubt that.
Listed below are the five directors in question, and the assorted goodness they have to their name!
Michael Slovis – Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, Fringe, CSI
Mark Mylod – Shameless (UK and US), Entourage, The Fast Show
Jeremy Podeswa – The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Boardwalk Empire, The Newsroom
Miguel Sapochnik – Banshee, House, Repo Men, Under The Dome
David Nutter – Homeland, Arrow, The Pacific, The Sopranos, The X Files…. Game of Thrones.
That’s right, only one of the five directors lined up for the fifth season of Game of Thrones has actually worked on the bloody thing before. This is exciting! And risky!
IN any case, that’s an impressive resume of television. And while it’s a bit early to get excited for the next series, especially given season 4 (barring an electric final quarter) was a resounding dud, the more GOT’s staling formula is shaken up, the better!
