After a painfully long break, Doctor Who is almost back on our screens with season 8 set to debut on the 23rd of August 2014.
Alongside the new series, which sees The Thick of It chap Peter Capaldi taking up the Time Lord mantle, the BBC has just confirmed that its also going to be debuting a new companion show - Doctor Who Extra. The 12 part behind the scenes doc will air after each episode of the show, giving viewers a look at the particular demands of producing what they just watched.
Each 10 minute episode will delve deep into the lore of the Doctor and into specific scenes from the current season. Capaldi will be right front and centre alongside stars like Jenna Coleman, Ben Miller and Keeley Hawes as well as contributions from lead writer Steven Moffat.

Doctor Who Season 8 kicks off on the 23rd of August 2014 with a feature length episode directed by Ben Wheatley.
