True Detective was some great TV, dense, dark and with one of the best pairings ever in Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. And there's more on the way.
Creator Nic Pizzolatto has a long plan for the show, with the intention of bringing in a new cast and characters every season. We don't yet know if there will even be any connections across the various arcs, and the only word on season 2 so far is that it could have a male and female lead.
Oh and Pizzolatto also said it would be about“hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.” Which isn't exactly revealing.
Now, there's an exciting new development. Legendary filmmaker William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection) was chatting with The Playlistand revealed that he's a big fan of the work that Pizzolatto is doing - which isn't that big a surprise as their sensibilities are quite similar. Friedkin is increasingly drawn to long form TV shows in recent years, mentioning a couple of names. Including True Detective.
It then emerged that not only has Friedkin met Pizzolatto but they got on really well and the director is already considering coming on board the True Detective train. They didn't get much more information out of him and there's a chance it might not even happen in season 2 but as news goes it doesn't get much more exciting than this!
True Detective Season 2 is currently at the writing stages with no word on production just yet, though there's a rumour each episode will be directed by a different person. Expect it to debut in 2015.
