Keanu Reeves hasn't been around much lately, taking time to develop his directing skills in movies like Man of Tai Chi. He's still got movie projects on the boil but he's also set to be the latest star to make the transition to TV.
The show will be called Rain and Reeves will play John Rain - a former special forces chap who now spends his time murdering folks for coin and making it look like an accident. We're guessing he gets in over his head, or starts to see the error of his ways. Something that can be a multi series arc anyway.
It's based on a series of books by Barry Eisler featuring the character of John Rain. With 8 novels released since 2002, there's plenty of material to draw from for future episodes, though the show doesn't yet have a home for broadcast. It's the first TV project for a new company called Slingshot, and Reeves will also executive-produce.
As much as we like Reeves, it's hard to really see him carrying an entire 10+ houts of a TV series, especially with a setup this generic. Maybe if Rain can distinguish itself with the supporting cast or a particularly stylish approach - or lots of violence - it might end up being something worth watching.
Writers are currently being sought so don't expect to see Rain on TV for another couple of years.
