David Letterman announced on his show last night that he's ready to wind down his time on the Late Show.
The 66 year old chat show host for more than 20 years - since it was first broadcast in August 1993. That's over 4,000 episodes of talk and comedy to date and massive ratings on home network CBS.
The news comes just a short while after that other TV legend Jay Leno stepped down from his long run on The Tonight Show and will see the late night chat landscape shaken up yet again, no doubt making room for a more fresh faced approach to grab some of that younthful audience. Unless Leno takes up the seat...
For the moment, here's a look at Letterman's very casual annoucement - partly down to the fact that his actual retirement could be up to a year away.
