Despite the triumphant return of both series creator Dan Harmon and ‘to form’ in its rather glorious fifth season, Community wasn’t renewed for a sixth. And it looked a lot like there would be no happy ending for the Greendale six or seven or whatever it is now technically.
But lo, Yahoo and Sony Pictures Television announced last night that they would fund a 13 episode sixth season of the fan favourite comedy. The only catch is that season six will be available exclusively to Yahoo Screen. Which isn’t so much a catch as an invitation to be pirated!*
*No, it’s not. Don’t be a pirate. They have scurvy. Which is actually horrendously dangerous. And gross.
Series creator and executive producer Dan Harmon went on record saying,
"I am very pleased that 'Community' will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo… I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, 'Big Bang Theory.' Look out, Bang Bus!"
Not terribly sure what that last comment means, but it doesn’t matter. Community! Woot!
